Selling My Home Moving Tips.
Your house has been sold. Time to move all your possession
out. You can either use the facilities of a specialist removal
company, or you can hire a truck and make the move
yourself.
If you are moving quite a distance though, it makes a
lot of sense to use a removal service. They will do it in
one trip, and all your possession will be properly insured.
If you are just intending to move the other
side of town, then there is money to be saved by doing it
yourself, even if several trips are needed.
So, where to start?
Make sure you have enough boxes to store small items in.
Pack everything one room at a time, so that you can keep
track of what still needs to be done.
Code all boxed and crated items with a number that relates
to the room they are destined for in your new home. Make sure
you don't pack away anything needed for the trip to your
new home, and for what you may need on arrival.
- Ensure that all utility companies have been advised of
the change of house ownership.
- Send details of your new address to all the financial
institutions you do business with. This covers your bank
accounts, credit cards, life and general insurances,
savings, investments and so on.
- Arrange for your mail to be forwarded to your new
address.
- Leave all your keys for the incoming owners.
- Ensure your cell phones are fully charged.
For the journey to your new home, take with
you:
- Your cell phones - and ensure they are fully
charged.
.
- Enough to eat and drink on the journey, and enough
food for a basic meal when you arrive
- Any current medications being used by the family, the
children especially.
- Paper tissues, kitchen roll, loo paper.
- Spare water.
- Some books or toys to keep the children amused during
the journey.
- If pets are travelling with you, ensure they have
enough food and water too.
- Your kettle and possibly your toaster (for when you
arrive at your new home).
- Plates and mugs.
- Spare light bulbs.
- A torch.
- A basic toolkit: Screwdrivers, pliers, knife,
hammer.
